'I Been In This Movie Before'
Music Composition, instrumentation and spoken word male vocals by Patrick Howe

Lyrics to 'I Been In This Movie Before'
 It's so beautiful
resplendent with joy
truly a mystery
such a wonder

Greetings ladies and gentlemen!

And welcome to the greatest show on earth!

Lila sweet Lila
The great Illusionist
You take us in
then give us a twist

Life is your drama
the world is your stage
It’s a whole lot of fun
then you take it away

We're characters in your movie
 just playing our parts
Is it real or an illusion
we can't tell 'em apart.

But I’m lookin' through you
You're not takin' me in

You let cowboys ride
bareback on thunderbolts
You make irises out of lavender fire
You give poets wings to fly
You make lovers open their hearts
then you push them apart
you make em cry
 Lila sweet Lila
I’m onto your lies

I’m looking through you
You haven’t taken me in
Cuz I’ve been in this movie before
and I know how it ends
I know who I am

You let little girls
fly up in their spaceships
to rearrange the stars
You give every dog a thousand friends
And little boys wings to fly
You make lovers open their hearts
then you push them apart
you make 'em cry.

You laugh when you're serious
so we can’t really tell
if you're bringing us heaven or
a bombshell

Lila sweet Lila
When our lives are full of pain
you say we’re just acting
But I’m lookin through you
You haven't taken me in
Cuz I’ve been in this movie before
I know how it ends
cuz I know who I am

About This Song
Everyone experiences life's joys and sorrows. In Hinduism and Buddhism there is the idea that the drama of life—our happiness and tragedies—are an illusion. It is as if we are unwitting characters in a movie or theatrical production that we believe to be real. To become awakened is to realize this trick of the mind and to no longer fall for it. Then we can stop taking life so seriously, and know that all is well at a deeper level, for it is only the mind that creates this illusion. In this song I have personified the drama of life in a character named Lila.
